In order to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the premiere of Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Cristiana Pegoraro created an original, stimulating and fun new project for young people: a theatrical representation based on the opera’s original libretto with the participation of students of Istituto di Istruzione Superiore Classico e Artistico and of Liceo Musicale of Terni.

The training of the project included
• an educational part, during which students have deepened their knowledge of composer Gioacchino Rossini, of his opera production and in general of the production of Italian Opera in the 19th century

• a practical part, during which students have ventured into the roles of actors, musicians, directors, set designers, makeup artists, costume designers.

The students received an acting workshop by renown actress and stage director Maria Rosaria Omaggio.

The play roles are nine: Figaro, Don Bartolo, Conte di Almaviva, Rosina, two Narratori, two Gendarmi and Notaio, played by students of Istituto di Istruzione Superiore Classico e Artistico.

The narrative will alternate with the main arias transcribed for small ensemble and played by the students of Liceo Musicale of Terni.

The sets are made by the students of Istituto di Istruzione Superiore Artistico.

The project, of absolute originality, is designed to promote Italy’s most distinctive musical tradition, the opera, to young people and to deepen their knowledge of such a distinctive opera as Il barbiere di Siviglia through a simple and fun learning method.

In addition to the performance of Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 5.00pm (to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the opera premiere held at Teatro Argentina in Rome on February 20, 1816), Narnia Arts Academy will present three matinées for the students of the schools in Terni.
